Bodegas Luis Canas Hiru 3 Racimos, 2002/03, La Rioja
Luis Canas have made huge progress in recent years and have quite rightly been richly awarded for doing so. No wine in the Rioja region has been as bestowed with praise as Hiru 3 Racimos - last year it won the Decanter Trophy for best Tempranillo in the world! Hiru is made from vines that produce only three immensely concentrated bunches, the grapes are then hand selected and fermented. After barrel ageing, the wine emerges a glorious black colour with hints of wild berry fruit, grilled meats and spice. The palate is huge, groaning with fruit, oak, rich tannins and immense length.
