Umbria Sportoletti Assisi Grechetto, 2006, Umbria
Made from 100% Grechetto grown in red, calcium rich soils outside of the hilltop town of Assisi. The grapes are harvested by hand in mid September. They are crushed and fermented in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks, where the wine remains for 4 months after fermentation. It then spends 4 months in the bottle before release. The resulting wine is straw yellow in color with a delightfully rich character. On the palate, subtle fruit flavors are accompanied by a nutty aftertaste and a long pleasant finish.

Umbria Sportoletti Assisi Rosso, 2005, Umbria
"As usual, this cuvee represents an outstanding value. Sportoletti’s 2005 Assisi Rosso (a blend of 50% Sangiovese, 40% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon fashioned by renowned winemaking consultant Riccardo Cotarella) was aged four months in three year old French oak barrels. It boasts a gorgeous perfume of sweet white chocolate, black cherries, and black currants as well as an opulent, pure, rich, smooth style. Drink it over the next 3-4 years - 90 Points" - Robert Parker
