Varietals

Chenin Blanc

Nearly a third of vines in South Africa are Chenin Blanc, here it is also called "Steen". This extremely fine grape variety has also adapted very well to Argentine soils.

It is planted as "Pinot Blanco" in Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Argentina, where there are over 10,000 acres of Chenin Blanc. In California, it is the third most widely planted white wine grape. Australia has close to 1,500 acres and New Zealand 500.

In Argentina the grape is seldom found in varietals and is most frequently used to contribute freshness and acidic structure to numerous white blend wines. Analogies between Chenin and the white peach peel are frequently made to describe its bouquet.

Tip: Normally pairs well with spicy Thai and Asian food as well as with cheese
