Varietals

Pinot Noir

Some of the best wine is widely acknowledged to be produced from Pinot noir. It's grapes are grown around the world, but the variety is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France and it is from here that it is believed to have originated.

The Côte-d'Or and places such as Nuit St-Georges have long produced some of the best wines, however California (Santa Lucia Highlands and Russian River Valley) and the North Island of New Zealand also produce some excellent examples.

This ancient and noble variety is frequently used to produce bases for the best sparkling wines (white wine production) and also in the production of very good red varietals.

Depending on the different clones (this is the fastest mutating variety), its colour may range from ruby to deep red but always preserving its raspberry, beet and earthy bouquets.

Tip: A good pairing with a nutty Swiss cheese such as Gruyère and also a great addition to a Turkey meal
